My mattress has got mould on it

Take Good Care of Your Futon – Avoid Mold and Mildew

A futon is not like other mattresses – it needs extra love and care. Your futon depends on you. It offers many possibilities, but also requires proper maintenance to stay fresh and free from mold.

Futon mattresses can develop mold if they don’t get enough air. Think of the mattress as a big sponge – without ventilation, moisture builds up, leading to mold and unpleasant odors. That’s why it’s incredibly important to let your futon breathe. Make sure to uncover it during the day, so the moisture from nighttime sweat can evaporate. Otherwise, the futon will retain the dampness, and over time this can cause both odor and mold.

Care Tips:

  • Uncover your futon during the day, allowing excess moisture to escape.

  • Give it 2 hours in direct sunlight on each side, when the weather permits – sunlight is effective against moisture and bacteria.

  • Turn it occasionally to restore the filling’s shape and to ventilate it thoroughly.
